Expion Energy Buys Louisiana Oil and Gas Prospect for $3.425 Million
Expion Energy has entered the oil and gas market by acquiring an exploration opportunity in eastern Louisiana for $3.425 million. This marks the company's first entry into oil and gas, with the assets including approximately 3,000 net acres of existing leases, a wellbore, mineral title research covering around 13,000 net acres, and intellectual property associated with the prospect.
The acquired assets come with an exploration agreement that requires drilling and testing a new lateral well by February 15, 2027. Expion plans to expand its acreage position through re-leasing expired tracts and acquiring additional leases, committing up to $4 million toward the leasing program.
Management is positioning this strategy around potential long-term natural gas demand from AI data centers, power generation, and Gulf Coast LNG exports. CEO Kevin Sellers notes that 'the combination of substantial natural gas resource potential in a formation with multiple proven productive analog fields, its proximity to hyperscale AI data center development and power demand, and direct access to Gulf Coast LNG infrastructure creates a compelling long-term opportunity.'
Sellers brings extensive experience in the energy sector, having served as founder and managing member of Cynergy since 2009 and previously co-founding KMR Capital.
