Exxon Doubles LNG Sales Target to 50 Million Tons by 2030
ExxonMobil has raised its annual sales target for liquefied natural gas (LNG) to 50 million tons by 2030, more than doubling its current production volume. The company's previous target was 40 million tons per year by 2030.
This goal is ambitious, given that Exxon currently has a 6% share of the global LNG market, which totaled 422 million tons in 2025, according to Shell.
Exxon's LNG business has experienced some challenges this year, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and damage to two of its minority-owned LNG trains in Qatar. However, the company has also made progress with the start-up of its Golden Pass facility in the U.S., which will help offset some of that impact.
Exxon sees global LNG demand rising to 500 million tons by 2030 and doubling by 2050, suggesting it would control 10% of the market by 2030. The company is investing heavily to expand its LNG business, with current projects including Golden Pass and the North Field Expansion project in Qatar.
Exxon's plans to accelerate one of its existing projects or acquire additional LNG capacity will be closely watched by investors, who should monitor the company's progress towards reaching this more ambitious goal. Achieving it would position Exxon strongly to meet its targets of delivering $25 billion in earnings growth and $35 billion in cash flow growth by 2030.
