Exxon Shares Climb as Brent Crude Reaches $91.22
Oil prices are rising, and Exxon shares are benefiting from this trend. On August 18, Brent crude reached $91.22, a 15.5% increase over the level mentioned by Vice President JD Vance on August 6 as his target for sustained relief. This price surge has given Exxon's upstream segment an upward boost in value.
However, this is not solely a positive development for Exxon. The disruptions in Qatar have resulted in a significant decline of around 450,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day during the second quarter, representing about 10% of the company's production. These production halts and shipping delays will likely continue to affect Exxon's operations.
Exxon reported adjusted earnings of $14.68 billion for the second quarter, but this fell below analyst consensus. Despite this, the company's operating cash flow was strong at $23.6 billion, with free cash flow at $17.2 billion. However, analysts remain cautious about the risks associated with a prolonged conflict in the Middle East, which could lead to further production declines and disruptions.
