ExxonMobil's Balance Sheet Shields Against Oil Price Volatility
ExxonMobil Holdings Corporation XOM is an integrated energy giant that generates most of its earnings from upstream operations in the Permian Basin and offshore Guyana resources. This makes it highly susceptible to fluctuations in oil and natural gas prices.
However, investors need not worry about this vulnerability due to the company's strong balance sheet with a debt-to-capitalization ratio of 13.73%. This lower exposure to debt capital allows XOM to rely on its financials when oil and natural gas prices fall and the business environment becomes unfavorable.
The energy giant can also secure additional debt on favorable terms during uncertain situations, enabling it to operate smoothly, pursue lucrative acquisitions, and continue rewarding shareholders.
Other integrated energy giants like Chevron Corporation CVX and EOG Resources Inc. EOG have similar robust balance sheets with lower debt loads, making them more resilient in an unfavorable business environment.
