FAO: Cooking Oil Prices Surge on Tight Supply, Strong Currencies
The prices of cooking oil and meat have surged in March due to tightening supply and strengthening currencies, according to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
The FAO's Food Price Index shows that the vegetable oils price index rose by 3.7% month-on-month, driven by higher prices of palm, soy, rapeseed, and sunflower oils.
The strengthening of the Euro against the USD supported the upward trend in cooking oil prices, while rising demand helped stabilize the market.
