FAO Food Price Index Hits Multi-Year High on Wheat and Maize Gains

The FAO Food Price Index (FPI) rose by 1.5% in September, reaching its highest level since August 2023, according to the latest report from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

The FPI averaged 136 points in September, up 2 points from its revised August level. The Cereal Price Index also increased, by 6% from August, with world wheat prices reaching their highest level since August 2023 due to logistical constraints in the Black Sea region and dry weather conditions in parts of North America.

The FAO Meat Price Index declined by 1.5 points (1.1%) from its revised August value, while the Dairy Price Index remained stable. The Sugar Price Index increased for the third consecutive month, rising to its highest level since April 2025.
