FAO: Global Food Prices Reach Highest Level Since November 2022
The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported that global food prices have reached their highest level since November 2022, with a monthly increase of 1.9% in August.
The FAO's food price index stood at 133.3 points in August, up from 130.8 points in July and 2.5% higher than the same period last year.
Sugar prices saw the biggest jump, rising by 11.9% to their highest level since June 2025, due to weaker output in Brazil's center south region and concerns over El Nino's effect on production in Asia.
Cereal prices climbed 2.2%, with wheat up 2.6% and corn up 2.5%, driven by disruptions to Black Sea exports and supply chain issues.
