Farm Bureau Seeks Trump Relief for Record-High Diesel Prices
The American Farm Bureau Federation has called on President Donald Trump to provide relief from record-high diesel prices as farmers work through harvest. In a letter to the President, Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall requested that the administration take several steps to address the issue.
Diesel prices have climbed to $6.382 per gallon nationwide, with farm diesel prices in the Corn Belt nearing $6 per gallon. The federal highway diesel tax is over 24 cents per gallon, adding to farmers' expenses. Duvall noted that higher diesel costs are particularly burdensome during harvest season, when fuel is essential for operating combines, tractors, and irrigation equipment.
Farm Bureau also asked the Trump administration to waive federal penalties for the emergency use of dyed diesel in highway vehicles. At least 10 states have already taken action to provide relief as fuel prices have climbed, with Nebraska being one of them.
