Farm Bureau Seeks Trump Relief from Record-High Diesel Prices
The American Farm Bureau Federation has called on President Donald Trump to provide relief from record-high diesel prices as farmers work through harvest. In a letter sent to Trump, Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall asked the administration to take several steps to alleviate the burden of high fuel costs.
The national average price for on-highway diesel has climbed to $6.382 per gallon, while farm diesel prices in the heart of the Corn Belt are nearing $6 per gallon. The federal highway diesel tax is more than 24 cents per gallon.
Diesel is essential throughout agricultural production, from operating combines and tractors to transporting crops and livestock. Farm Bureau is also asking the Trump administration to waive federal penalties for the emergency use of dyed diesel in highway vehicles.
