Sandhills Global's latest industry reports highlight a growing optimism in the farm equipment market, particularly during the harvest season. Used tractors with 100 horsepower and above have seen auction values rise nearly 5% compared to the same period last year. Ryan Dolezal, Manager of TractorHouse, noted that while this uptick is positive, it is tempered by rising fuel prices and other economic variables. Dealers, however, are increasingly optimistic about the market heading into the end of 2023 and into 2024.

Inventory levels for used high-horsepower tractors have been declining for the 16th consecutive month, with a 0.28% drop month-over-month and a significant 14.82% year-over-year decrease. Tractors with 300 HP and above saw the largest month-over-month inventory reduction, while those in the 100-174 HP range experienced the most substantial year-over-year decline. Despite this, asking values for these tractors have inched up slightly by 0.44% year-over-year.

The trend extends to other farm equipment, such as combines and sprayers. Used combine harvester inventories fell 2.36% month-over-month and 9.51% year-over-year, with auction values showing a slight increase of 2.74% year-over-year. Sprayers, on the other hand, saw a 4.14% month-over-month inventory increase but a 15.43% year-over-year decrease, with auction values displaying a mixed pattern of month-over-month and year-over-year changes.

Heavy-duty construction equipment and semi-trailers also experienced inventory declines, with used semi-trailers down 8.05% month-over-month and 35.33% year-over-year. However, asking values for these assets have trended upwards, particularly for flatbed trailers, which saw a 2.74% month-over-month and 12.45% year-over-year increase in asking values.
