Farmer Sentiment Rebounds as Stronger Prices Offset Input Costs
The Ag Economy Barometer rose by 13 points to 126 in July, after three consecutive months of decline. The improvement is attributed to stronger corn and soybean prices that have lifted farmers' outlook for both current conditions and the year ahead.
Despite this positive trend, high input costs remain a significant concern for producers, with 46% identifying them as their biggest issue. Crop or livestock prices were also seen as a major challenge, cited by 30% of respondents.
The survey found that only 13% of farmers believe their farm is in better financial shape than it was last year, and 24% expect conditions to worsen over the next 12 months. However, the Farm Capital Investment Index strengthened, increasing by 10 points to 50, indicating that producers are becoming more comfortable making major investment decisions.
