Farmers Face Continued Economic Pressures Despite Price Gains
A recent survey of corn and soybean farmers in the US has revealed ongoing economic pressures despite recent price improvements. The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) and American Soybean Association (ASA) co-authored a report analyzing data from over 1,200 farmers.
The survey showed that nearly two-thirds of growers are moderately or very concerned about the farm economy, with 46% expressing more concern than they were last year. This is despite recent improvements in corn prices and some improvement in grower sentiment.
According to Krista Swanson, NCGA Chief Economist, 'farm profitability doesn't reset in one market move or one crop year.' Scott Gerlt, ASA Chief Economist, added that growers have 'little margin for error' with high input costs remaining a key concern.
