Farms in Western Pennsylvania Face Fall Season Challenges Amidst Wet Weather Concerns

The start of fall brings new challenges for farmers in western Pennsylvania as they prepare to welcome visitors to their seasonal attractions. While some farms have already begun offering corn mazes and pumpkin patches, others are just starting out.

Hite Farms and Corn Maze, which will be open through October 25, has been dealing with wet weather all summer. Co-owner Jim Hite notes that although the rain helped crops grow, it could also ruin them, especially on weekends when bad weather might deter visitors.

'As farmers we've been dealing with the wet weather all summer,' Hite said. 'But coming off of about two to three dry years, the farmers all appreciate the rain we're getting now.' He expresses concern that continued wet weather could negatively impact their profits.
