FCX Stock Surges 14.9% Amid Copper Price Rally

Freeport-McMoRan Inc.'s FCX shares have surged by 14.9% over the past month, primarily driven by strong earnings and a rally in copper prices.

The price increase is attributed to concerns over tighter global supply and resilient demand for copper. Freeport's second-quarter earnings performance was boosted by significantly higher realized copper prices, despite lower sales volumes.

The company has underperformed the Zacks Mining - Non Ferrous industry's 16.1% rise but topped the S&P 500's 2.9% increase over the same period. Its peers, Southern Copper Corporation SCCO and BHP Group LimitedBHP, have gained 11.5% and 10.7%, respectively.

Freeport has been trading above its 200-day simple moving average since late November 2025, indicating a long-term uptrend. The company's pipeline of expansion projects is expected to support long-term production growth, driven by strong copper prices and robust liquidity.
