Fed Rate Hike Leaves Wall Street Treading Water Above $100 Oil
Wall Street ended a tumultuous week on a muted note as benchmark US Treasury yields topped 5%, and crude prices reversed earlier gains but remained above $100 per barrel.
The end of the week saw investors approach with caution, seemingly exhausted from the activity leading up to the US Federal Reserve's interest rate hike. The Fed's decision has left many trying to figure out both short-term and long-term implications for equities and fixed-income investments.
Chuck Carlson, CEO of Horizon Investment Services, noted that 'a lot of investors are trying to figure out not just the short-term implications, but longer-term implications of what the Fed may be embarking on.'
Inflation concerns remained prominent as crude prices settled above $100 per barrel. However, they eased back from session highs after China asked Iran to limit attacks by Houthi rebels on Saudi oil infrastructure.
