Fed's Rate Hike Dilemma Fuels Gold Price Rally
The US Federal Reserve is facing a conundrum on rate hikes, which may have a positive impact on gold prices. According to Victor Smorgon Group's gold expert Cameron Judd, the Fed is stuck between raising interest rates and keeping them low due to unsustainable debt levels.
Judd stated that 'structural forces' are taking over, driving down real rates, which is beneficial for gold. He added that the tension between a potentially hawkish Fed and the Treasury's desire to keep bond yields down may keep rates on hold.
The US debt has reached $40 trillion, with an annual interest bill of over $1 trillion. Judd believes this will make it difficult for the Fed to raise rates beyond the current target level of 3.5-3.75%. He also mentioned that the Treasury's intervention in FX markets and the long end of the curve is pushing real rates down, which is positive for gold.
Judd likes a number of mid-tier gold producers, including Genesis Minerals (ASX:GMD), Ramelius Resources (ASX:RMS), and Equinox Gold (NYSE:EQX). He believes these companies have strong margins and are well-positioned to benefit from a higher gold price.
