Ford and Smith Pledge Aggressive Timeline for Proposed Alberta-Ontario Pipeline
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed confidence in accelerating the timeline for the proposed Northern Shield Energy Corridor, a 3,300-kilometer pipeline carrying Alberta crude oil to refining facilities in Sarnia, Ont. and possibly extending to Manitoba.
The pipeline would initially transport approximately 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day, with capacity eventually expanding to as much as 800,000 barrels per day.
Smith stated that Ford had set a 'pretty aggressive timeline' for the project, but argued it was achievable by pointing to the construction of TC Energy's Mainline decades ago as an example of major energy infrastructure being built rapidly.
Ford pledged his province would invest public money to help get the project built, stating Ontario is prepared to provide patient capital needed to invest in their future.
