Ford Pledges Government Support for Northern Shield Pipeline
Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that his government is prepared to invest in the Northern Shield Energy Corridor, a proposed pipeline connecting Alberta to Ontario. The project would transport approximately 500,000 barrels of oil per day from Hardisty, Alberta to Sarnia, Ontario, with potential for expansion to 800,000 barrels.
Ford emphasized that this is not just an economic development project, but also a key component in Canada's energy sovereignty and national security. He stated, 'Canadian sovereignty starts with energy sovereignty.'
The pipeline would be built using Canadian steel by Canadian workers within Canada's borders, reducing reliance on foreign markets and infrastructure.
