Ford, Smith Differ on Using Energy to Pressure US

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith have differing opinions on using energy as leverage in trade talks with the United States, but are united in their goal of increasing oil flow within Canada. In a recent phone call, Ford called for all provinces to take a 'Team Canada' approach and use resources such as oil to put pressure on the US.

However, Smith disagreed, stating that cutting off Alberta's energy exports would be extremely harmful to Canadians and is not a viable option. Despite their disagreement, Ford said they are working together to advance a proposed pipeline from Alberta to refineries in Ontario, routed through Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Ford also clarified his previous comments about US President Donald Trump, stating that while he toned down his language, he doesn't regret calling him a 'loser' and 'bully'. The two premiers plan to meet in person in the coming weeks.
