FortisBC Gets Green Light for LNG Expansion Project
FortisBC has received an environmental assessment certificate from the provincial government to expand its existing liquefied natural gas facility on Tilbury Island in Delta. The Tilbury Phase 2 project aims to increase production by over 50% and boost storage capacity at the site.
The expansion includes a new LNG storage tank with a working volume of up to 142,400 cubic meters and new liquefaction facilities capable of producing up to 7,700 tonnes per day of LNG. The project also includes natural gas receiving facilities and supporting infrastructure located within the existing facility footprint.
According to Minister Tamara Davidson and Minister Adrian Dix, the project will provide employment opportunities during construction and operations, contribute to economic activity and tax revenues, and support energy resiliency in the Lower Mainland through additional natural-gas storage capacity. The EAO's assessment concluded that the project would not cause significant adverse effects once mitigation measures and proposed conditions are applied.
