Fossil Fuel Industry Ties Run Deep in Advertising World
Global advertising and public relations agencies have extensive ties to the oil and gas industry, according to a new report from Clean Creatives. The organization found over 1,300 contracts between ad and PR agencies and major polluters like Aramco, ExxonMobil, and Chevron.
In its annual 'F-List' report, Clean Creatives discovered that 802 agencies have worked with the world's largest greenhouse gas emitters during 2025 and 2026. This includes eight of the world's largest oil and gas companies, which amassed record profits in 2026 after the U.S invasion of Iran drove energy prices up.
The report also found that many contracts are held by agencies owned by major holding companies like Omnicom, WPP, Publicis Groupe, Dentsu, and Havas. These companies have subsidiaries with multiple contracts with oil and gas firms through their networks.
