Freeport LNG Roars Back with Increased Natural Gas Intake
Freeport LNG's export plant in Texas was back on track to take in more natural gas after one of its three liquefaction trains shut down due to a compressor issue.
The train, Train 1, shut down on Thursday but the facility is expected to increase its feedgas intake to 1.3 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) by Friday, according to LSEG data.
This comes after Freeport had been pulling in an average of just 1.0 bcfd of gas during maintenance work that started on July 10 and is expected to last until late August.
The shutdown and startup of the facility have previously caused massive price swings in global gas markets, with U.S. gas prices typically dropping when Freeport shuts down due to decreased demand and rising when trains restart as demand increases.
