French Wheat Returns to Yemen After Four-Year Absence

Yemen is set to receive its first shipment of French wheat since September 2022, marking a significant development in the country's grain supply chain. The total cargo will amount to 60 thousand tons, indicating a diversification of Yemen's grain suppliers amid changes in the global market.

The shipment involves two ports: Dunkirk and Rouen, where a bulk carrier is loading 20 thousand and 40 thousand tons of wheat, respectively. This marks the resumption of French wheat exports to Yemen after a four-year break, according to European Commission data.

The improved quality of grain in France due to dry and hot weather has strengthened the competitiveness of French wheat on international markets. However, France still faces competition from major exporters like Romania.
