FTSE 100 Index Rises 0.3% Led by Mining Stocks and Copper Price
The FTSE 100 index closed up 0.3% at 10,893.49 on Tuesday, led by a rally in mining stocks as copper prices rose.
Heavily-weighted miners such as Antofagasta, Anglo American, Rio Tinto, and Glencore saw significant gains, with copper prices playing a major role in their performance.
Fresnillo, a precious metals miner, also stood out after beating expectations with its interim results, thanks to higher volumes and lower-than-forecast operating costs. The company's gross profits more than doubled compared to last year.
However, not all companies fared well in the market. Smith & Nephew saw its shares tumble as it trimmed its full-year revenue growth outlook due to weak demand for knee and hip replacements in the US.
