Fuel Prices Skyrocket in Alaska Amid Global Oil Turmoil
Alaskan residents are feeling the pinch of rising fuel prices, which have reached $5.06 per gallon on average, nearly twenty cents higher than last month and seventy cents above the national average.
The cost of diesel is even more egregious, sitting at $6.40 per gallon, a full dollar above last month's price.
The global price of crude oil has also skyrocketed to $104.59 per barrel due to increased unrest in the Middle East.
For drivers like those interviewed by KTUU, the high prices are causing financial strain: 'It's putting a strain on my family and all of our expenses,' one driver said.
Business owners like Jeremy Coke are also feeling the pinch, with fuel surcharges impacting their bottom line.
However, economics professor Dr. Ian Hartman notes that the high price of oil could have a paradoxical positive impact on Alaska's finances in the long term, as it would boost state revenues and potentially lead to investments in energy infrastructure.
