Funds Pile into Bullish Wheat and Rapeseed Bets on Euronext

Financial players on Euronext have increased their bullish bets on milling wheat and rapeseed, even as commercial traders take more bearish positions. According to positioning data, non-commercial traders, mainly funds, lifted their net long in milling wheat futures and options to 216,811 contracts by September 4.

This represents a significant increase from the previous week's 201,113 contracts and means that funds now make up a substantial portion of bullish exposure on Euronext. Commercial traders, who typically hedge against price fluctuations, increased their net short positions in wheat to 232,977 contracts and hold 68.97% of all wheat shorts.

The concentration of longs among non-commercial players makes the market more sensitive to shifts in sentiment and portfolio flows, rather than physical supply and demand. This can lead to 'crowded trade' dynamics, where many investors try to exit at once, causing prices to swing rapidly around fresh information.
