G7 Nations Release 100 Million Barrels in Bid to Stabilize Global Energy Supplies
The world's seven leading industrial economies - the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan - have announced a joint effort to stabilize global energy supplies. With diesel prices near record highs, the G7 nations will release 100 million barrels of diesel and crude oil from their emergency reserves over four months.
The move comes after pressure from the Trump administration, which threatened to ban U.S. diesel exports, sparking concerns among European allies that such a ban would slash diesel supplies to Europe and deal an economic blow. The G7 statement emphasized the need for coordinated measures to shield households and businesses from price shocks and strengthen global energy systems.
The 100 million barrels released are equivalent to one day's worth of global oil demand, according to The New York Times. As part of its statement, the G7 noted that member countries have agreed to refrain from export restrictions among the group.
