G7 Releases Up to 100 Million Barrels of Emergency Oil and Diesel Stocks
The G7 nations and their partners have announced a plan to release up to 100 million barrels of emergency oil and diesel stocks over the next four months. This move comes in response to soaring fuel prices, which have been exacerbated by wars in Iran and Ukraine.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) will coordinate the release, with an initial focus on diesel. European and US diesel futures slumped following the announcement, while Brent crude futures initially fell before recovering.
The deal aims to alleviate concerns over President Donald Trump's earlier threats to implement a US diesel export ban, which could have triggered a global supply crunch with severe economic consequences for Europe and Latin America. The G7 nations reaffirmed their commitment to refraining from energy-export bans between member countries.
