GAIL CMD Warns Energy Security is Key Amid Global LNG Disruptions
GAIL's Chairman and Managing Director Deepak Gupta emphasized the importance of energy security in light of global LNG supply chain disruptions. Speaking at GAIL's 42nd Annual General Meeting, Gupta noted that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have exposed vulnerabilities in global energy markets.
The disruptions to LNG supply chains through the Strait of Hormuz led to volatility in prices and freight rates, highlighting the need for diversified sourcing and resilient infrastructure. GAIL currently has an LNG sourcing portfolio of 16.56 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA), with access to a fleet of nine LNG vessels.
The company aims to expand its National Gas Grid, strengthen gas marketing, and diversify LNG sourcing and shipping. GAIL also plans to scale renewable energy and low-carbon businesses as part of its Net Zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions target for 2035.
