Gas Prices on Track to Shatter Record as US Averages Over $4.30 per Gallon

U.S. gas prices are on track to shatter the September record, according to an analysis by motor club AAA.

Average prices have been steadily rising this month, with a current average of $4.48 per gallon as of Thursday, and $4.30 for September overall.

This would mark the second consecutive month that gas prices set a new benchmark, after August saw prices above $4 for the entire month for the first time ever.

The usual drop in gas prices at this time of year has been halted by geopolitical unrest and high oil prices, driving up pump prices instead.

Rising diesel prices are also causing concern, with a record-high price of $6.53 on Tuesday and $6.51 as of Thursday, nearly $3 higher than the same period last year.
