Gas Prices Remain Stuck Above $4 as Labor Day Approaches
According to a recent AAA release on August 27th, drivers across the country are still feeling the pinch at the gas pump. The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has remained above $4 per gallon every single day throughout August, a milestone that hasn't been seen before.
The current national average is $4.09 per gallon, which is actually a penny cheaper than it was the previous week, but still cause for concern. AAA says crude oil prices have also remained relatively steady, hovering around $80 per barrel. Continued uncertainty and volatility in the Strait of Hormuz are putting pressure on oil prices, which eventually makes its way down to drivers.
The August 2026 numbers suggest that this will be the most expensive August ever recorded at the gas pump, surpassing the previous record set back in 2022. With Labor Day weekend approaching, many Americans will be putting even more miles on their vehicles, making it a particularly painful summer for drivers.
