Gas Supply Crisis to Ease Gradually: Bangladesh's LNG Terminal to Return to Normal
Bangladesh is facing a severe gas supply crisis due to an accident at one of its Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminals. The terminal, operated by an international company, was recently affected by a fire incident that has reduced its capacity to operate at full power.
According to Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman, the Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser, the crisis is expected to ease gradually as the damaged terminal returns to normal operations in phases. The adviser expressed hope that gas supply will increase over the next few days, reducing the impact of load-shedding and power shortages across the country.
The shortage has caused immense suffering for people, especially during the intense heat. To manage the situation, the government has kept costly diesel-fired power plants in operation to meet the shortfall in domestic gas production. These plants are usually used on a limited basis due to their high generation costs.
