GasEntec Receives Approval for High-Capacity LNG Floating Regasification Unit
Lloyd’s Register (LR) has granted an Approval in Principle (AiP) to GasEntec for a cutting-edge floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) designed for liquefied natural gas (LNG). The FSRU boasts an impressive send-out capacity of up to one billion cubic feet of gas per day, positioning it among the highest-capacity FSRUs currently in development.
The approval, presented during Gastech 2026 in Bangkok, highlights the FSRU’s unique multi-mode regasification system. This system allows operation in open, closed, or combined-loop modes, providing operators with the flexibility to adapt to various environmental conditions, regulatory requirements, and project needs.
GasEntec’s design features a modular architecture that can be tailored to different capacities, pressures, and operational requirements. Once deployed, it will rank among the world’s largest FSRUs by send-out capacity and offer unparalleled operational flexibility. The company plans to use this AiP to advance the design and support FSRU projects for owners and developers.
Industry experts praised the design’s versatility and reliability. Jose Navarro, Global Gas Technology Director at LR, emphasized the need for solutions that perform reliably across different climates and regulatory environments. Sean Van der Post, Global Offshore Business Director at LR, noted the evolving focus on flexibility and long-term operational resilience in FSRU development. TG Kim, co-chief operating officer at GasEntec, highlighted the modular platform’s efficiency and the growing demand for quick and reliable gas supply.
