GasEntec’s High-Capacity FSRU Design Approved by Lloyd’s Register
GasEntec has received approval from Lloyd’s Register for its large-scale floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) design, marking a significant milestone in high-capacity energy infrastructure. The concept, which can deliver 1 billion cubic feet of gas per day, aims to enhance the speed and flexibility of large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) import projects.
Lloyd’s Register granted approval in principle (AiP) to GasEntec’s modular FSRU, recognizing its high send-out capacity and multi-mode regasification technology. This design allows the unit to operate in open, closed, or combined-loop modes, addressing key challenges in FSRU projects. Jose Navarro, Global Gas Technology Director at Lloyd’s Register, emphasized the need for solutions that can perform reliably across different climates and regulatory environments.
The approval follows an independent assessment of the design’s technical and safety fundamentals. GasEntec plans to use this AiP to advance the FSRU design towards execution, supporting projects for FSRU owners and developers. Sean Van der Post, Global Offshore Business Director at Lloyd’s Register, highlighted the importance of flexibility and adaptability in FSRU development, noting that early-stage assessments help give developers confidence as they progress projects.
The FSRU’s modular architecture allows for configuration to suit different capacities, pressures, and operational requirements, making it one of the largest and most flexible FSRUs under development. TG Kim, Co-Chief Operating Officer at GasEntec, stated that the design supports efficient project-specific engineering and faster deployment, addressing the growing demand for reliable gas delivery in various energy sectors.
