GCC States Unite Behind Saudi Arabia Against Iran-Backed Militia Attacks
Riyadh has secured full backing from Gulf states in defending its sovereignty and security after recent attacks by Iran-backed militias in Iraq, the head of the GCC said. The Secretary-General of the GCC, Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, described the assaults as a 'dangerous escalation' that threatened regional peace and stability.
The GCC chief's comments were echoed by other leaders in the region, with Kuwait denouncing the attacks on Saudi Arabia and Bahrain expressing support for Riyadh. Egypt also condemned the targeting of oil facilities in the Kingdom and the militia's attacks on Jordan.
The Muslim World League (MWL) Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa offered full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, stating that the 'criminal attacks' violated all religious values and international laws.
