Georgia Gas Prices Drop 33 Cents After State Tax Suspension
Georgia drivers are seeing some relief at the pump, thanks to Governor Brian Kemp’s suspension of the state gas tax, which is set to continue through October 29. The statewide average price for unleaded gasoline dropped to $3.85 per gallon, marking a 33-cent decrease from the previous week. While the current average is 3 cents lower than a month ago, it remains 96 cents higher than a year ago. Filling a 15-gallon tank now costs about $57.90.
Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA, The Auto Club Group, noted that lower crude oil prices and the state gas tax suspension are helping to keep fuel costs in check. She advised drivers to save even more by driving efficiently, maintaining their vehicles, and combining errands when possible.
Prices vary across Georgia’s metro markets, with Atlanta having the highest average at $3.91 per gallon, followed by Macon at $3.90 and Gainesville at $3.89. The least expensive markets are Albany at $3.67, Catoosa-Dade-Walker at $3.69, and Brunswick at $3.71. In Cobb County, the average price is $3.87 per gallon, about two cents higher than the statewide average.
For electric vehicle owners, charging rates at commercial DC fast charging stations are around 42 cents per kilowatt-hour nationally, with slightly lower rates in Georgia. Home charging remains significantly cheaper, especially during off-peak hours.
Nationally, gas prices have eased slightly, with the average falling 11 cents over the past week to $4.36 per gallon. September’s national monthly average reached a record high of $4.33, surpassing the previous September record of $3.83 set in 2023 by 50 cents.
