Germany Boosts Gas Reserves Ahead of Winter Amid Storage Concerns
Germans are taking steps to bolster their natural gas reserves ahead of winter as storage levels remain below normal. The state-owned company SEFE has been instructed to increase its purchases and store larger volumes of gas.
The move is part of Germany's efforts to strengthen energy security, following a reduction in Russian gas supplies via pipeline. To mitigate this risk, the country has increased its use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by developing new import terminals and establishing agreements with international suppliers to diversify sources of supply.
VNG, one of Germany's main gas importers, believes that current market conditions offer greater responsiveness to high-demand scenarios during winter. The company maintains supply agreements with Norway, Azerbaijan, and Algeria, and is expanding its participation in the international gas market through contracts with external producers.
