Germany Told SEFE to Store Gas Amid Low Inventories

Germany's government has instructed state-owned energy company SEFE Securing Energy for Europe GmbH to procure and store natural gas in the coming weeks. The move comes after months of low inventories, which had prompted concerns about energy security.

The Economy Ministry described this measure as an 'important additional step' to increase Germany's resilience in terms of gas supply. SEFE has been told to inject 8 terawatt-hours of gas into storage by December 15.

This directive is a reversal from previous claims that low inventories did not pose a threat. The company will need to take action quickly to meet the target, with winter looming and energy demand expected to rise.
