Gevo ND tour showcases sustainable low-carbon corn farming
A recent tour organized by Gevo ND showcased sustainable, low-carbon corn farming practices in North Dakota, despite a challenging drought this summer. The tour visited a farm near Mott, where corn was strip-till planted by Plains Grain & Agronomy, demonstrating how farmers can achieve good yields with minimal nitrogen inputs.
Travis Messer, farmer and founder of Plains Grain & Agronomy’s southwest location, highlighted the precision agriculture machines his business built. He explained how these tools enable sustainable and profitable farming by reducing the need for fertilizers and other inputs.
The tour included international and state business leaders interested in low-carbon farming. A Japanese carbon credit businessman, among others, inspected the precision farming equipment, including a tractor that demonstrated how these machines work.
Heather Manuel of Gevo ND guided the group through the field and up to the ethanol plant, emphasizing the connection between sustainable farming and the production of low-carbon fuel.
