Ghana's Gas-to-Power Strategy Saves GH¢3.08 Billion in Fuel Costs

The Ghanaian government's Gas-to-Power Strategy has achieved significant savings in fuel costs. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Finance Minister, announced that the strategy saved GH¢3.08 billion (approximately US$268.5 million) during the first half of 2026.

This was made possible by replacing light crude oil with natural gas for electricity generation, a transition that reduced costs by at least 75 per cent. The government increased gas supply for power generation by an additional 35 million standard cubic feet per day, bringing total supply to about 490 million standard cubic feet per day.

The increase in gas supply came from the OCTP and Jubilee Gas fields, with 10 million and 25 million standard cubic feet per day respectively. The Finance Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to the strategy, citing its goal of providing affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy for the country.
