Global Agricultural Market Shifts Amid War, Geopolitics, and Logistics Challenges
The global agricultural market is undergoing significant changes, driven by factors such as war, geopolitics, logistics, trade policy, and shifts in global demand. Hundreds of representatives from the agri-food business and international trade gathered at AgroFoodSummit 2026 in Mersin, Türkiye, to discuss these issues.
The situation in the Black Sea region is particularly complex, with shipping restrictions, risks to port infrastructure, and rising logistics costs affecting countries in the region as well as buyers in Europe, Asia, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. The conflict has extended beyond the region, and market participants are adapting by finding unconventional logistics solutions.
In Ukraine, up to 38 million tonnes of grain from the Black Sea region could be at risk if the limited operation of Black Sea ports continues until the end of the 2026/27 MY. Ukrainian wheat exports in July-August were already 39% below the average of the previous three seasons.
