Global Durum Wheat Market Exits Third Consecutive Surplus Season
The global durum wheat market has entered its third consecutive season in surplus, according to Filippo Bertuzzi, Senior Analyst at Arete (Italy). Durum production is forecasted to increase by 0.6 million tonnes in the 2026/27 marketing year.
This significant increase in supply will lead to a further rise in stocks by around 1.7 million tonnes compared with last year. Canada and the United States are expected to export slightly less than last year due to lower demand from North Africa, which is experiencing its own production surplus.
The decline in North African demand has put pressure on global durum prices, affecting exporters like Canada. In Europe, despite lower production volumes, carryover stocks from the previous season remain substantial.
