Global Energy Crisis Deepens Amid Ongoing War with Iran
The global energy crisis has intensified as efforts to bridge the supply gap have fallen short. This is according to industry executives and oil ministers, who spoke at the CERAWeek conference in Houston.
The crisis stems from the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran, which has caused a significant reduction in oil and gas supplies from Middle East producers. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping chokepoint, remains closed due to Iranian activities.
As a result, costs for energy, fertilizers, and petrochemicals are skyrocketing. Some countries have been forced to implement drastic measures, such as four-day workweeks and limiting travel and elevator use.
The Philippines has declared a national energy emergency, while United Airlines may raise ticket prices by up to 20%. Industry leaders warn that the crisis will spread to Europe in April if the war continues.
