Global Energy Crisis Lags into Natural Gas, Coal Markets
The global energy supply disruptions that began affecting petrol markets in March are now spreading to other areas, including natural gas and coal prices. According to Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, this 'lagging effect' is starting to impact electricity generation costs directly.
Consumers who use more than 600 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity will be affected by the fluctuations in fuel costs, known as the Automated Fuel Adjustment (AFA). This adjustment reflects changes in fuel prices and will be passed on to consumers.
The impact is already being felt, with natural gas and coal prices increasing due to global supply disruptions. The minister emphasized that this is a result of the lagging effect of the initial energy crisis, which began affecting petrol markets in March.
