Global Food Prices Surge Amid Transport Disruptions
Global food commodity prices rose 1.5% in September, according to the FAO Food Price Index. This increase is attributed to transport disruptions, adverse weather conditions, and tighter supply expectations.
The global trend has affected international rice prices, which also moved higher. The FAO All Rice Price Index rose 1.4% from August, driven by increased Indica rice quotations amid weather concerns and seasonally tighter supplies.
In Bangladesh, the domestic prices of aromatic rice and wheat flour have surged in response to the global trend. Wheat flour became 10-12% pricier in a month, while aromatic rice witnessed a Tk 20 hike per kg.
