Global Food Security Crisis Deepens Amid War, Disruptions, and Weather
The global food security crisis is intensifying due to multiple factors, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, and weather conditions.
The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation's (FAO) August Food Price Index rose by 1.9% from July to 133.3 points, its highest level since late 2022.
Global grain prices increased by 2.2% in August, reaching their highest level since May 2024, while wheat prices rose by 2.6%, bringing them 15% above their level a year earlier.
Agricultural experts warn that continued trade disruptions and rising input costs could turn the crisis into a higher food bill for consumers.
