Global Grain Supply Faces Largest Deficit in Three Decades by 2026/27
The global grain supply is facing significant challenges, despite a plentiful corn harvest in the United States. According to the USDA, the US is facing a tightening grain market, with global corn consumption projected to surpass production by nearly 30 million metric tons by 2026/27.
This would mark the largest deficit in over three decades, raising concerns over future supply.
The situation has already impacted futures markets, driving up prices for corn, wheat, and soybeans. Chicago corn saw a record 16% price increase in August alone.
Falling wheat and corn production in key exporting nations, the largest decline since 2012/13, primarily due to external factors like geopolitical instability and adverse weather conditions, has compounded the issue.
