Global Markets Mixed After Wall Street Gains, Oil Prices Rise Amid Ongoing Tensions
World stock markets are experiencing mixed results on Monday, following last week's gains in US stocks. Japan's Nikkei 225 led advances, jumping 2.1% to 66,970.22.
The Nikkei was boosted by strong performances from technology companies, with Tokyo Electron climbing 4.1% and Advantest rising 6.4%. In contrast, South Korea's Kospi added only 0.7%, as major chipmakers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix slipped 0.4% and 0.1%, respectively.
Analysts attributed the modest gains in some markets to foreign investors selling shares in Big Tech companies to lock in profits and rebalance their holdings into other industries, such as defense contractors.
In Europe, Germany's DAX rose 0.3% to 26,411.01, while the CAC 40 in Paris edged 0.1% lower to 8,703.73. Britain's FTSE 100 lost 0.3% to 10,869.35.
Oil prices increased as tensions over the Middle East conflict remained uncertain, with Brent crude rising 0.8% to $84.23 per barrel and US benchmark crude advancing 0.7% to $78.72 per barrel.
