Global Stocks Surge as Oil Prices, Bond Yields Recede
The global stock market experienced a significant surge on Monday as oil prices and bond yields receded from their jumps last week.
The S&P 500 rose by 1% and is now within 0.9% of its all-time high set in August, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 193 points or 0.4%, and the Nasdaq composite jumped 1.6%.
The decline in oil prices contributed to this uptick, with Brent crude falling 3.4% to $100.29, down from nearly $110 last week but still higher than its summer price of around $72 per barrel.
Morgan Stanley's Michael Wilson warned that another increase in oil prices could hinder the stock market's growth and keep it below his year-end forecast.
The easing of bond yields also alleviated pressure on the economy, with the 10-year Treasury yield dropping to 4.96% from 5.01% last week, above the 5% threshold for the first time in three years.
