Gold and silver prices drop sharply in India on October 6
On October 6, gold and silver prices in India experienced a significant decline. According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold dropped by ₹920, reaching ₹1.47 lakh. Similarly, the price of one kilogram of silver fell by ₹3,176, bringing it down to ₹2.21 lakh.
The decrease in prices follows a broader trend observed in September, where gold prices fell by ₹8,000 and silver by ₹17,000. On August 31, gold was priced at ₹1.56 lakh per 10 grams, but by September 30, it had dropped to ₹1.48 lakh. Silver prices also saw a decline from ₹2.37 lakh to ₹2.20 lakh during the same period.
Experts suggest that the volatility in gold and silver prices may continue in the near future. The recent interest rate hike by the US Federal Reserve has contributed to the fall in gold prices. However, geopolitical tensions such as the US-Iran conflict and economic uncertainty could potentially drive investors back to gold as a safe-haven asset.
Investors are advised to exercise caution as the market remains weak. A substantial decline in prices could present a buying opportunity. Additionally, when purchasing gold, it is essential to ensure it is certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and to cross-check the price and weight through reliable sources like the IBJA website.
For silver buyers, there are four key tests to identify genuine silver: the magnet test, the ice test, the smell test, and the cloth test. These methods can help distinguish authentic silver from counterfeit items.
